I'm GIOVANNA GEATHERS

Giovanna Geathers is the visionary founder and driving force behind The Breathe Women’s Conference, which had its inaugural event in 2018. However, her passion for women’s empowerment began long before. In 1994, fresh out of college, Giovanna organized her first event, the Miss Black Elegance Pageant, aimed at promoting educational excellence and self-esteem among teenage girls in her community. This was no ordinary beauty pageant; it was a platform that emphasized inner strength and academic achievement over traditional standards of beauty.

By 1997, Giovanna was gathering women to watch and discuss inspirational videos, fostering a sense of community and shared learning. Her visit to Los Angeles in 2005, where she encountered her first vision board, was a turning point. Inspired, she began hosting vision board workshops in her living room, encouraging women to dream big and reach for their full potential.

As Giovanna pursued and earned her master’s degree in counseling, she recognized an even greater need to focus on women’s mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. She founded her first women’s empowerment group, SASSY (Support a Sister, Support Yourself), in the late 1990s, which later evolved into the Joy4Life Women’s Group. Her efforts culminated in the creation of The Breathe Group on Facebook, a community dedicated to self-care, stress management, and overall wellness for women. The Breathe Group has hosted numerous events, including the 100 Women in White Brunch for survivors of sexual assault, self-defense classes, monthly fitness challenges, and The Breathe Women’s Retreat. The group has also contributed to the community by donating toiletries to a local battered women’s shelter, raising funds for those financially impacted by COVID-19, and serving as a beacon of hope for women in various areas. In 2020, The Breathe Group became a recognized charity in South Carolina, known as The Breathe Group, Inc.

Giovanna is a passionate advocate for women in the areas of self-love, self-worth, self-esteem, and self-trust. In 2017, she authored her first book, "Why Am I Still Single," which helps women develop healthier romantic and interpersonal relationships by addressing past traumas and focusing on internal healing rather than external validation. That same year, she hosted her first women’s retreat in the mountains of Western North Carolina, an event that sold out quickly. The success of this retreat led to the launch of The Breathe Women’s Conference in Greenville, South Carolina, which drew over 120 women in its inaugural year and doubled in size the following year in 2019.

Giovanna’s unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment continues to inspire and transform lives. She regularly speaks to women’s groups, churches, and academic institutions on topics ranging from mental and emotional health to relationships and financial empowerment. She has led manifesting boot camps, vision board workshops, and "bond" fires, and has coached and counseled hundreds of women and men in leadership, self-empowerment, and self-acceptance.
